In a generous show of support for its employees and for the community, Sterling Custom Homes, a home builder in Austin,  has generously agreed to match donations up to $2,500 for an employee’s fund raising initiative.

Gary Grambley, sales and marketing director at Sterling Custom Homes, has committed to training for / and running in the upcoming San Antonio Rock & Roll Marathon in November. In conjunction with this, Gary is soliciting donations from friends and associates in an effort to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central & South Texas.

Gary explains, “I wanted to challenge myself to train for the next six months, running about 900 miles with the Rogue Running Group, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to benefit my favorite charity in the process. When I discussed my plans with Duke McDowell, president of Sterling Custom Homes, he blew me away with his offer to match donations!” Read More→

What are your plans for the Memorial Day weekend? If you’re still narrowing down your options, you may want to consider the 2011 Austin Wine and Music Festival on May 28 and 29 from 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the backyard of The Domain. The event is located in northwest Austin, so it’s convenient to owners of Austin luxury real estate.

The festival is a unique celebration of Austin’s local offerings: It’s 100 percent local wine, brew and you. And, while you’re relaxing and sipping your wine you’ll enjoy more than 10 musicians and bands including up and coming stars and those who have been serenading Texans for generations.

However, wine and music aren’t the only things featured at the Austin Wine and Music Festival: You’ll find almost anything to complement your wine bottle, home or yourself with vendors including Boomerang’s Handheld Aussie Pies, Chedd’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese, The Sugar Shack BBQ, Affinity Metalworks, Brush Strokes Pottery, Clarity Art Studio, The Gypsy Couture and Vardanyan Jewelry to name a few. Constantly refining our processes at Sterling Custom Homes, Vick Pope, VP of Construction, has developed a driveway application that creates a beautiful finishing touch to your Austin luxury real estate.

In the past, the driveway material was only poured to the exterior of the Garage Apron – exposing the joint where the driveway meets the foundation. Since these are almost always two different finishes, the continuity of the driveway material was broken up – even when the garage door was closed (see photo #1).

Our revised process requires us to drop the foundation at the Garage Apron to accept a finished layer of driveway material that terminates at the lip, where the Garage Door meets the concrete (see photo #2). As you can see, this provides a more unified, seamless flow and a more professional finished look as the driveway material flows up to the closed garage door. Read More→

Now that spring has arrived and we’ve been enjoying warm weather and clear skies, it’s time to begin your spring cleaning rituals. This year, instead of just vacuuming and dusting, we at Sterling Custom Homes want to remind you that performing spring home maintenance on your Austin luxury real estate is just as important as removing the dust from your baseboards and curtains. To help you begin the process, we’ve listed the areas of your home that you should address.

Smoke Detectors: Make sure that there is one on each floor of your home, inspect them monthly to see that they’re working and change the batteries as needed.

Light Bulbs: Examine the bulbs in all of your fixtures to see that they are working and are the correct wattage as recommended by the manufacturer. Also, replace high-intensity with fluorescent bulbs that don’t produce as much heat.

Electrical Outlets: Check all outlets for frayed wires, loose-fitting plugs or other fire hazards such as overloaded electrical outlets, fuse boxes and extension cords. Read More→

From boutique shopping, restaurants and art galleries to historical and picturesque weekend destinations, you don’t have far to travel to experience all that Austin has to offer. If you’re looking for something to do near your Austin luxury real estate, then you should visit Mount Bonnell.

Boasting a bird’s eye panoramic view of Lake Austin, the Austin skyline and the Pennybacker Bridge, Mount Bonnell is the perfect spot for exercise enthusiasts who enjoy hiking and nature buffs looking for a relaxing place to have a picnic. It’s also a great backdrop for special occasion photography sessions to celebrate an engagement, wedding or graduation.

The overlook area has two access points: a rocky trail from the north and a steep set of stairs at the south end. However, don’t let that discourage you. Neither access point represents a major hike. Just make sure to wear a sensible pair of shoes and pack your water bottle and sunscreen. Read More→
