Pool Design
Posted by:For nearly 25 years Sterling Custom Homes has been recognized as the elite Austin Home Builder. We have built hundreds of unique custom homes in nearly all of the high-end communities in the Austin / Lakeway areas. The vast majority of our homes are designed around the outdoor living space, which invariably includes a swimming pool.
Custom swimming pools come in a variety of shapes and sizes and incorporate many fun, interesting concepts. From swim-up bars to grottos tucked behind waterfalls to firepits and water features, the possibilities are truly endless.
When designing the home, many people think that the swimming pool design needs to be finalized prior to construction. We prefer, when possible, to simply “save the space” for the pool and get into the details of swimming pool design after the foundation has been poured and the house has been framed up. This allows our clients to get a better feel for the pool/house relationship and enables them to take advantage of the precise view corridors that they wish to showcase.
However, sometime we find that access is limited or impossible based on the lot characteristics and neighboring properties. In these cases we spend much more time up-front on the pool design. We then construct the pool foundation first, prior to the home foundation. In these instances it becomes very important to understand and visualize the pool/house relationship – even before the house construction has begun. Read More→

The current drought has been difficult for our lakefront property owners. Lake Travis, at 633 msl, is about 45 feet below full. Lakeway is home to the best golf in Austin
Posted by:The city of Lakeway has long been known to be home to some of the best golf in the Austin area. As you watch The Masters, you might experience a strange little tingle deep within you, an urge even. That feeling is what golfers call “The Itch.” It’s a phenomenon that causes you to suddenly have the need to hit the links. Just seeing the lush, green grounds of Augusta National, the best maintained and most exclusive golf club in, perhaps, the world, makes me want to go play some golf. Luckily there are plenty of golf courses in the Lakeway area to escape to. Some of the best custom homes in Austin are built on these golf courses so when I should be able to go on a field trip and can call it “market research,” right?
Speaking of research, here’s a list of the beautiful and challenging golf courses in and around Lakeway.
